Restoran Heng Wang Fa (兴旺发海鲜饭店) - Seafood in Tanjung Piandang

It was a surprise to encounter this restaurant in Tanjung Piandang, Perak. Tanjung Piandang is a small town located appriximately 14km, Southwest of Parit Buntar, Perak. If you had tried seafood in Bukit Tambun, Pulau Pinang, you would be interested to find out this restaurant. However, it is quite a distance from the exit of North-South Highway.

The way of seafood preparation is common, don't expect exceptional cooking. It is all about the freshness of foods. Fish, prawn, mantis prawn, squid, stingray, crab etc. I was told the fish I had was barely two hours from the fishermen. Many fish lover prefers fresh fish to be steamed, at here, I recommend it to be fried. The freshness in the fried fish is irresistible. I didn't take the photos of foods, sorry, I was busy enjoying it.

There is a fried shrimp cake stall in front of the restaurant, you might want to try it as well.

How To Unlock Car Door Without Key. (My Experience)

It was Thursday morning and three days holiday to look forward. Arrived early at the office's car park, making sure I had my employee's card in the pocket, grabbed my laptop bag and manually locked my old Proton Wira. I only realised the car key was still in the ignition when I sat in my office chair. Without panic, I searched "How To Unlock Car Door Without Key" on YouTube. The methods encountered were using steel ruler, phone frequency, and string. Obviously phone frequency is the most convenient method. I tried this method with my wife, I concluded this method was not workable after 15 minutes of trial. Perhaps the alarm system is not functioning.

The next options were steel ruler and string. Luckily my colleague was assisting me and he got me a 1.5 metre long string. Applying string was tricky, it was not easy to tide the pin. Align the string left and right, finally, the pin was tided and the door was unlocked. The person who invented this method is a genius. Shoe lace can be used as well. Credit this to the inventor and thanks for saving me from unwanted expense.

This was the video I referred:

Sekinchan (Fish and Rice Town), Selangor, One Day Trip.

Sekinchan, Fish and Rice town.
Sekinchan is my close friend's hometown, therefore, he acted as our "Sekinchan trip tour guide". He suggested departure time at 7.30am from Klang to avoid congested traffic on Jalan Kapar. Weekend is the time for Malaysian folks to travel back to hometown (Balik Kampung) or go on holiday.

The travelling time was 1 hour 15 minutes approximately and we stopped at Red Harbor BBQ (烧而红) beside market (Pasar) for duck rice. Yummy!

1) Red Harbor BBQ (烧而红)
Location: Jalan Gereja, beside Restaurant Sheng Hui.

After finished breakfast, we bought a few fresh corns besides DaMaCai which my friends missed the first prize for 4D. Chinese sayings "hit the right numbers without hitting the prize".

May and November, one of the best month to visit Sekinchan. It is the time for rice harvesting. Yellowish ricefield, blue sky, white cloud, bright sun are the best scene for photo shooting.

Why You Should Change Your Job. My Opinion.

Why we should quit even if the company is paying the salary? Why not we enjoy the comfort zone? I don't think so.

These are my opinions:

1) Retrenchment
There are long serving employees. I have a friend who was retrenched after 30 years of service. He was the unlucky one, he only received 3 months compensation. There are companies compensates according to the years of service, however, not every company. Long serving doesn't guarantees decent compensation.

2) Experience and Learning
Working with a company without gaining much experience is a "dangerous zone". Continuous learning is important, Especially the young employees, please quit for experience. Learn as much as possible during younger age, that's the time you able to learn fast.

3) Promotion
Study the employee's promotion history of the company for reference. It can be subjective, you might want to work hard for the promotion first. If your endeavour is not rewarded, the reference is applicable. However, experience is more important than promotion for youngsters. Balance it well before resign, you would know when is the right time.

4) The Project Status
Study the progress of the project. Successful project is vital for your career. It will decide your increment, bonus and promotion. It also indicates a successful employee because of involvement. That's the easiest way for next employer to recruit you with higher salary.

Finally, what do you want to achieve for your career? I have a friend who is two years away from achieving a milestone of half century service for the same company. On the other hand, a boss told me, it's okay to quit a job because you need to learn new skills for career development.

Vikings Voyage to America.

Vikings voyage to America has been a controversial topic. We were taught that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 13th century. However, history of vikings movement to Greenland and Newfoundland in 11th century is also an interesting topic. Basically there were four voyages to North America which summarised as follows:

1) Bjarni Herjolfsson

Bjarni Herjolfsson's voyage to North America was not planned. He intended to spend the winter with his father, Herjulf Bardarson in Iceland. However, Herjulf departed for Greenland and Bjarni made a decision to follow his father. It was the time Bjarni sighted a low hills and well forested land. Bjarni knew it was not Greenland. Therefore he sailed north and the land he encountered was still flat and well forested. Continue sailing to the north, he finally met his father in Greenland.

2) Leif Eriksson

Leif Eriksson wanted to explore the new land. He bought Bjarni's ship, recruited some of the crews and sailed Bjarni's course in reverse. He identified three areas which are Helluland (south of Baffin Island), Markland (Labrador) and Vinland (Newfoundland). Leif spent a winter at Leifsbudir, Vinland.

3) Thorvald Eriksson

Thorvald Eriksson was Leif's brother who explored the land further. He arrived Leifsbudir and sent his men to survey the west coast of Vinland. He sailed back to North to explore a big inlet leading to west. A cape was named Kjalarnes, Keel Ness because his keel was damaged there. Here the crews met the natives and Thorvald was killed by an Indian arrow.

4) Thorfinn Karlsefni

Thorfinn Karlsefni attempts to colonise the new land. His men took all kinds of livestock and even took their wives along with them. They followed the same route as Leif and Thorvald and stayed at Leifsbudir. Another saying is Karlsefni settled in two areas named Straumfjord and Hóp. Karlsefni left after three winters due to hostilities between Skrᴂlings and Norsemen.

Hope this summary provides you an idea of vikings voyage to America.

Olaf Tryggvason (c.950 - 1000) Captured by Pirates Before Became King of Norway. My view.

Olaf Tyrggvason was a king of Norway from 995 to 1000 and he was the great grandson of Harald Fairhair. Olaf was captured by pirates from Esthonia and sold to slavery during his young age. His uncle Sigurd found him in a marketplace and ransomed him. Then, he became King of Norway from 995 to 1000.

His early life was miserable.

His father, Tryggvi Olafsson was killed by the sons of Eirik. Luckily his mother, Astrid escaped the massacre. After he was born, he travelled various places for hiding until he was three years old. Imagined a toddle without protection from a father and he was hiding to save his life. He might be witnessing combat and killing during these journeys. Perhaps he developed skills for his viking career.

Then, he was captured by pirates from Esthonia. The pirates could have beaten him before locked him up. As a boy, he must be mentally strong to learn that his foster-father was killed by the pirates. The foster-father could be one of the person close to him. Then, the pirates sold him to slavery. He might not had any knowledge about luxury before this, however, it was tough for a kid to be a slave. He spent six years as a slave before Sigurd found him in Esthonia. Sigurd took him back to Novgorod and he was protected under Valdemar.

His viking career began at the age of 18.

He attacked the island of Bornholm and met Geira in Wendland, who married him. Geira died three years later of a sickness. Then, he went back to viking. He became King of Norway from 995 to 1000.

If he were sold to slavery after he had enjoyed the luxury as a prince, he might not make it. He might not able to handle with the harsh life as slave. Persistence is the key no matter how hard is our life. The beauty in life is you are smiling even though you are having a bad day.

Don't Pick A Job. Pick A Boss

Don't pick a job. Pick a boss. An important quote for employees especially at the beginning of career. This quote is simple but it contains esoteric meaning.

Competency and multitasking are the basic requirements to land a decent job in globalisation era. However, picking the right boss is important to ensure you have the opportunity to grow. The right boss understands subordinates and guides them to be a leader. Training opportunity or self-improvement programme is provided to enhance knowledge in various subjects. Project involvement to develop subordinates' practical knowledge. Promote subordinate to higher rank.

It is easy to talk or write. However, not easy to find the right boss. These following opinions might be useful to you in searching the right boss:-

1. Research
- A simple way to conduct research is type your boss name on the search engine website. LinkedIn provides useful information about career, achievement, education, skills and comments. News is significant to take note as well.
- Ask what people know about your boss. Generally, senior colleagues understands your boss since they work for the company longer than you. If you haven't join the company, search through your network. However, comments are subjective and filtration is required.

2. Study your boss
- Communicate frequently and build relationship with your boss. A good relationship is the best way to know a person.
- Observe his characters, attitudes and abilities.

3. The company
- Search information such as the company's objectives, policy, present financial status, projects status & planning, and previous promotion records. These information correlate to your promotion and increment.

4. Your career objective
- It is about matching your career objective with the right boss. Career objective might change after a period of time. Working with the right boss at the right time is something to think about.

Every boss is unique just like employee. A boss who is willing to promote an employee might not suits that employee. Understand yourself. What do you want to achieve in next 3 to 4 years? Is the boss able to assist you in achieving this goal? If your answer is yes, he/she might be the right boss.

Picking the right boss is not easy. Wish you all the best!

Kangwee's corner (26 October 2015, Monday)

I was thinking should I use the word "restart" for the post title. Maybe not.

The last post on Kangwee's corner was "making sure everything is alright.. keke" on 14 February 2011, Monday. It was about a proposed to my ex-girlfriend, presently my wife. Her decision to choose this "simple man" as husband makes my life wonderful. I got her a small size diamond engagement ring which I could afford. The size of the diamond doesn't matter to her. However, her tears matter to me, I love her.

In year 2012, we married and started our family. At the beginning, we had to stay at my parents' house. My parents provided a small room and it was beautified with wedding decoration mostly in red. A red paper written with "麒麟到此 meaning Kirin has arrived" was pasted at the top of the door. Wedding decoration stickers on the cabinets, lamps, bed, pillows, curtains are red in colours. On the wedding day, relatives and friends witnessed our marriage. We were exhausted after the wedding day.

My parents encouraged us to purchase a house. To pay the mortgage is simple, to get the right house is not. After 5 months of searching a house, 9 months of legal property transfer, 3 months of renovation, finally we entered the house in October 2013. However, it was not an important event to us. Expecting a baby girl in December was the exciting news. We are lucky to have this adorable daughter. Two years later, we have a son.

I told my wife, "After married, I have you, a house, a daughter and a son. I'm having a good luck."
